Minnesota Street Project

Merit Award

The Minnesota Street Project was established in response to San Francisco’s booming rental market, providing stable studio and commercial space for the city’s artists and art galleries. The design pivots around the renovation of a 1937 industrial warehouse in the heart of the rapidly developing Dogpatch neighborhood. This soaring space—a venue for events and rotating exhibitions—connects the entry lobby to 15 private galleries on two levels and a café and bar that opens to Minnesota Street. Work shown in the galleries and programming in the central atrium will complete this composition. The jury noted that the project excels in getting the most out of a minimum amount of material, with every small element adding to the overall feel of the building.
