Master of Ceremonies

Edgar Lopez, AIA

Edgar Lopez is the City Architect and Deputy Director for San Francisco’s Public Works Department. He leads the Building Design and Construction group responsible for delivering a wide range of capital projects and programs totaling over $4 billion.

His more than 25 years of experience with Public Works also includes serving as project architect and project manager on some of the city’s most significant buildings including the 13-story LEED platinum, $190 million Public Utilities Headquarters, the renovation of San Francisco City Hall, and the city’s Forensic Laboratory, among other projects.

Edgar has served on several boards including the American Institute of Architects-San Francisco Chapter, the American Institute of Architects California Council, and the San Francisco Parks Trust. He is also a member of the Land Economic Society Golden Gate Chapter. Edgar is a San Francisco resident living with his wife and two sons in Duboce Triangle.

 


JURY

The 2018 Design Awards Jury will take place in Boston, Massachusetts. Confirmed jurors include:

Jeffry Burchard, AIA

Jeffry Burchard is an Architect. He is a Partner and Principal at Boston-based Machado Silvetti where he designs and leads domestic and international architecture, urban design and master-planning projects. His recent work includes award winning projects for the Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life at New York University in Manhattan, the Asian Art Study Center at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida and the 350,000 SM New Model Campus for the Vietnamese-German University in Binh Duong Province, Vietnam. Jeffry is an Assistant Professor in the Practice of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design where he offers instruction in core design studios, thesis and the history, theory and application of practice. Jeffry serves on the GSD’s Practice Platform committee and is the schools representative on the Boston Society of Architect’s Board of Directors.

Jean Carroon, FAIA

Jean Carroon is a principal at Goody Clancy, a Boston-based design firm committed to building social value through a practice embracing architecture, planning and preservation. Jean’s focus is on the opportunities inherent in the stewardship of existing places to shape a healthy resilient world. She combines an understanding of history and building technology with a commitment to transforming places – redefining their relevance, utility, and flexibility while sustaining and enhancing essential beauty and value. Alex Diaz

Alex Diaz works at NADAAA, a Boston/New York based architecture and urban design firm led by Nader Tehrani, Katie Faulkner, and Dan Gallagher. His most recent work includes The Beacon Residences in Cleveland, and Justice in Design, an initiative to develop healthier and more rehabilitative jail infrastructure led by the Van Alen Institute in New York City. Alex received a B.A. in Biology from Boston University and an M.arch from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Sara Elsa-Beech

Sara enjoys the challenge of combining architecture practice, building science, and design research. She has worked with the AIA and large firms on sustainability initiatives, and has been with Baker Design Group since 2014. Formerly at Shepley Bulfinch, she was founding co-chair of the Sustainable Design Leadership Group. Sara’s experience includes leading and collaborating on educational, science, and civic projects in all phases of planning, design, and construction. She serves as project architect and project manager, synthesizing her expertise in ecologically-sensitive design, the user design process, building systems integration, and historic renovation into the context of the overall project picture.

BréAnna Romulus

BréAnna Romulus is a graduate of Andrews University where she received Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees. A native of Sacramento, California, BréAnna relocated to Boston in 2015. BréAnna is a designer at DREAM Collaborative, an MBE architecture, urban design, and development firm renowned for bringing world-class design to the local level. She is currently working on multiple multi-family residential project in the Greater Boston Area. The types of projects BréAnna has been involve are on a wide spectrum like academic, corporate, hospitality, mixed-use, residential, and retail. She enjoys creating places for people to inhabit. She says, "creating these places are the environment that sets the scene for individuals memories to be made with people they love." BréAnna’s is the Treasurer of Boston Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects and Director of Public Relations for ReviveMyTurf (non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for the youth to become involved in their communities). She can use these roles to make change in the profession by mentoring to the youth in urban communities to change their environment not only for themselves but for years to come.
