Refreshments generously provided by Climate One, a special project of the The Commonwealth Club that is changing the conversation about climate through live events and podcasts.


Marsha Maytum, FAIA LEED AP, Principal at Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects will lead a tour of the recently completed Commonwealth Club headquarters in San Francisco for COTE's first "Buildings & Beer" event of the year. The LEED™ Gold Certified building includes a 300-seat auditorium, meeting rooms, boardroom, a library, catering facility and staff workspace, and is designed to reduce energy use by 70% compared to similar building types.

The tour will begin promptly at 6:00 PM inside the building lobby at 110 The Embarcadero in San Francisco. An informal discussion on the rooftop garden follows at 7:00 PM with a cheese and wine networking hour. 

Founded in 1903, The Commonwealth Club of California is the nation’s oldest and largest public affairs forum.

Learning Objectives

  • Discover how a design/client/contractor team successfully transforms a 100-year old building into a state-of-the-art high performance workspace and presentation venue.
  • Investigate how project performance goals are set, and how the design process, including cost-benefit and other analyses, impact how various upgrades are selected.
  • Explore how the building envelope and building systems integrate to achieve maximum building performance.
  • Recognize how technical and architectural building elements overlap and interact to achieve a successful user experience.

  • $10 General Admission
