Share |

The path to licensure is a process that involves the completion of multiple levels of requirements. From Studying Architecture at an accredited institution, to Experience Through Internship (IDP), to passing the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) to Getting an Initial License, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) in partnership with the California Architects Board provide guidelines to reach this important milestone in the State of California.

  • Provide verification of five years of education equivalents and three years of architectural practice experience for a total of eight years of experience as evaluated by the Board;
  • This includes a minimum of one year of work experience must be under the direct supervision of an architect licensed in a US jurisdiction or two years of experience under the direct supervision of an architect registered in a Canadian province;
  • Successful completion of the Architect Registration Examination (ARE)
  • Completion of the Intern Development Program (IDP)
  • Successful completion of the California Supplemental Examination (CSE)
